Raise up to Rise up Movement

The Raise up to Rise up movement has been started by one of my favourite and most inspiring follows.  I love reading her blog posts and she gives amazing advice on not just hair but social media as well.

This movement is all about hairstylists raising up other hairstylists.  In an industry that has been all about competing with other stylists for clients, it's hard to feel support from each other.  The last couple years I have noticed a lot more of #stylistssupportingstylists on social media and in my own workplace. Most of us at JK Salon are chair renters, we all are our own business within the salon.  So you would think that that would bring a whole lot more of competition with each other, since we do not get paid hourly and only get paid if we have a client in our chair.  But from the very first day I started, I was immediately welcomed into a salon family, where we support and encourage one another and the best thing about supporting one another is that when you work together and dream together, you BOTH grow and learn.

Jamie started this movement to encourage other stylists to encourage each other so that we can all grow together and be a community of hard-working hairstylists.  I LOVE the whole idea behind this movement and if I can encourage you, even if you're not a hairstylist, to encourage the people in your life and the ones you follow on insta, more then just a double tap! Leave a comment or DM, a small word of encouragement can go a long way!

Here are the challenges that Jamie Dana has come up with if you are interested in following along with the #raiseuptoriseup movement:

Day 1:

Give a co-worker a compliment or do something nice for them

Day 2:

Leave a genuine, encouraging comment on 10 different people’s Instagram pages

Day 3:

Send someone you look up to an encouraging DM on Instagram

Day 4:

Shoutout Sunday – Shout someone out on Instagram

Day 5:

Send someone a small, thoughtful gift or thank you card in the mail
