Top 5 Favourite Hair Trends of 2017

I've noticed this year has been a lot of what I call 'done but undone' looks, meaning it is an effortless look that still took you more than 5 minutes to do.  From the barely there curls to the no makeup, makeup look.  When it comes to hair, this year has been moving in a direction of ease and less. Which I love! I can't tell you how much I actually dislike spending more than 15 minutes on my own hair (this includes extensions). Lately, most of my clients have been asking for soft Balayage, rooted blondes or colours that blend with their natural colour. Style wise they want easy, soft loose curls or just blow dried to their natural texture. On the other side of that, as you may have noticed, I've gotten into doing a lot of fun vivid colours. These bright or pastel colours are also making a big impact this year, with the added bonus of the return of Rose Gold.
Hair trends are always changing, be it that a small change or adjustment each year. That's what makes this industry so fun!

Here are my top 5 favourite Hair Trends from 2017!

1. Balayage

From soft and natural to ombre and everything in between. Balayage is where the true art of being a colorist lies, it takes time and lots of practice. So make sure you always book with someone who has experience!  Balayage is a great way to contour the hair, brightening up around your face, giving you that sun kissed look or going a bit more dramatic, like a blended ombre. Balayage started with the Ombre becoming super popular and then clients realizing that for some it might be too much maintenance. Balayage is the softer cousin of the ombre and I think it will be around for a long time.

2. Rose gold

The beginning of this 2017 had Rose Gold colours fading away, mostly because there are so many different formulas and varieties of Rose Gold, that is a hard colour to achieve for a client when they have a specific shade in mind.
But now I think it is making a come back! Popular colour line Kenra Professionals has just released a few Rose Gold shades. They are so beautiful that I think everyone is going to want this colour again!

3. Vivids/Pastels

With the awesome colour brand, PulpRiot gaining more popularity, so are the bright 'unnatural' colours.  More and more people are stepping outside of their comfort zone by adding a splash of colour to their current look or jumping all in with a full head of a 'crazy' colour.  This my current source of inspiration. Pinks, blues, purples, and yellows call my name every day and I've been lucky enough to be able to do a few.
The best part about the vivid trend is that Pastel colours are also popular this year. So you get the best of both worlds when you go for a Vivid colour because as it fades it becomes a pastel.

4. Fringe

Hair by Lianna, 2017 Hair Trends

Fringe, (or bangs or whatever you want to call them) are back! And this year in the form of a long, shag type. Long and blunt or a bit wispy, and framing the face. Asking for a long forward bang and having it frame your face (the bang, not face framing layers) will allow you to have a fun long bang that will be easy to push into a side bang when they get longer.

5. Long hair

Now, I'm all about the Lob(long bob) but I also LOVE long hair! And long rapunzel hair seems to be making its way to us this year.  So if you are one of those people with magical hair that grows so so beautifully then you're in luck!  If you are like me, who's hair grows slower than molasses, then extensions are the way to go if you want to rock the long locks. Clip ins or tape ins is what I would suggest for that, but always talk about your options with your hair stylist.

If you made it this far in only my second blog post then THANK YOU! From the bottom of my heart! Your support means the world💕
