4 Trends I’m still loving Even into 2020

Trends come and go. But some stick around and for good reason! These are some of my favourite trends from 2019 that I think are here for 2020 too.

1 Balayage forever ✌🏻

If you scroll through my insta then you would see I’m a fan of balayage. This style is as low or high maintenance as you want it to be and for that reason, I think it will be around for awhile.

2 Curtain fringe

I’ll be honest, I say bangs. But fringe is more professional.

I looove the look of these bangs. I love how versatile they are and how they look different on everyone.

3 Blunt cuts

I LOVE a good blunt cut. I think they look sharp and clean. They make fine hair look fuller and I personally think they make hair look the healthiest.

Blunt cuts started making a big come back last year and I believe they’ll be even bigger this year.

4 Rainbow hair

Fun colours are on the upward trend for sure. More and more people are trying new things and product lines like Pulp Riot are creating a bigger and bigger following.

It’s still something that is a little different and a whole lot creative! The hair possibilities are endless.

Which trend do you want to try?

How is my hair STILL GREASY?!

Is there anything worse than getting out of the shower after freshly washing and styling your hair, only to realize that it is still greasy? This literally just happened to me! Now, this doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s extremely frustrating.

I don’t know if you’re like me but I only wash my hair 1 to 2 times a week. So if I get out of the shower and my hair is not 100% clean then I know I’m gonna have to wash it sooner rather than later and frankly, I’m just too lazy for that(also a whole bunch of actual reasons for not washing my hair often).

Let me give you some quick tips on what to do when this happens to you:

  1. It might be something as simple as needing to switch your shampoo. Our hair gets used to the shampoos that we use all the time, almost immune to it after a while. Some people can go longer with using the same shampoo and others have to switch up every few months. Try something new by switching up your shampoo.

  2. Build up. You may just have a build-up of product on your hair, this can come from the styling products you use at home or the shampoo and conditioner you are using. It can also be things like well water, too many minerals in your water, or chlorine. My advice for this is to get a clarifying wash. I recommend that everyone use a clarifying shampoo at least 1 to 2 times a month it’s something that will really help keep your hair fresh, clean, and shiny.

  3. Too fast of a shampoo. Now, this rarely happens but if you get in the shower and have a bit of a product build-up and it’s been a while since you washed your hair, then a little quick shampoo is not really going to fix it! You should do a double shampoo, the first being a clarifying wash and the second being your normal shampoo. The first will break up any build-up you have going on and the second to cleanse it all away.

  4. Really simple, brush your hair BEFORE you shower. Pretty positive that was my issue today (haha). I just jumped in the shower and took my (day 6 hair) bun out while I was in and didn’t brush out all the product and teasing I had in there.

  5. Bad Product can also be a major factor. I 100% recommend buying professional products(yes even your hairspray) from a hair SALON. Most online company’s and MLMs are classified in the same category as drug store brands. This means that they probably have unnecessary ingredients in them(like WAX) that will cause a build up on your hair.

It may sound very simple but these 5 things can really make a difference to your hair.

Happy washing!

Hair Products I can’t Live without

Hair Products I can’t Live without

I thought I would share with you my personal favourite products that I use on a regular basis.

As you may have noticed I tend to change my hair colour a lot( I am my own worst client), so I always make sure I am using the best products for my hair to try and help keep it healthy through all my bleaching and colouring.  I will say that I have tried a lot of different brands and Kevin Murphy always comes out on top for me so a lot of what I use is Kevin Murphy.

Here are my top, use everyday products!

Gratitude - Week 3 (The Little Things)

Gratitude - Week 3 (The Little Things)

Well it’s the beginning of November and if your in Alberta that means winter decided to make a abrupt entrance.  I love the snow! So I couldn’t be happier.  Todays ramble post is all about the little things in our day to day life to be thankful for.  Sometimes its hard to look at our day and find things to be grateful for or find joy in the everyday life.  Sometimes its about making the choice to find the joy our day, in a world that can be discouraging

Gratitude - Week 2

Gratitude - Week 2

My hairstyling career started off slow. I worked two jobs while I tried to build up my clientele and for a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever make it as a stylist. About 2 years ago I felt so stuck, I was wondering why my passion for hair was growing but my clientele wasn't. That’s when I decided to make a big change in my career to move salons and go from working commission to chair rental.

4 weeks of Gratitude - Week 1

Taking a step in a different direction these next few weeks, I've always wanted to blog but not just about hair.  Here is a peek into my personal life.

My biggest thing with this blog series is that I don't want to come across as prideful or come off as if my life is completely perfect and everything goes according to plan. Because of the last year and a half, my life has done anything but gone as according to plan.

Hair by Lianna - How it all Started

I always had a love for hair growing up, it would be the first thing I would notice about someone. I was always trying to figure out how to style my own hair in new ways whenever I could.  Throughout high school, I took cosmetology classes and at the end of grade 11, I decided that this was the career I wanted to be in.  After high school, I went straight to Marvel College in Edmonton, Alberta to follow my dream.

COMING SOON

I am so excited to start writing blog posts. As soon as I get a break from doing hair I will write one up. In the meantime come visit me at John Kenneth Hair Salon in Spruce Grove where you can have a seat in my chair and I will make sure you leave with hair that you love!

xoxo,
